Charles I (1625-1649) 1643 Crown, Oxford mint. Obv. Shrewsbury die with plain ground beneath King on horseback. Rev. with declaration between lines centrally, denomination above surrounded by three Oxford plumes and date below. A truly superb example with soft rainbow tones through the legend. Currently housed in an NGC holder graded MS62, the finest known example currently in the census (can be removed on request). EF and rare at this level. [29.76g, N.2404, Brooker 870, S.2946A]
